Symptoms
Possible Symptoms of HIV
Some people experience flu-like symptoms during the primary infection stage which is the 1-3 months after the individual is infected. There is an asymptomatic (no symptoms) infection stage that can last for up to 10 years. Once symptoms develop they may include chronic fatigue, chronic diarrhea, skin problems, night sweats, weight loss, persistent fever, recurrent herpes outbreaks (if infected with herpes), and recurrent yeast infections in women.
Symptoms of Other STI’s
Once again it is important to stress the fact that even if you are showing no symptoms, this do not mean that you do not have an infection! Often people are carrying an STI and are totally unaware of their condition.
The symptoms of Chlamydia for females are a change or increase in vaginal discharge, itchiness in the vagina area, small amounts of bleeding not related to the female cycle, bleeding during or after sex, pain in lower abdomen or when urinating. For males the symptoms include a burning sensation when urinating or/and burning or itching around the hole of the penis, watery or milky discharge from the penis, and possibly some pain in the testicles.
The symptoms of Gonorrhea are extremely similar as Chlamydia. For women the symptoms are almost identical. For men there is one minor difference: the discharge has a thick greenish-yellow appearance all other symptoms are the same.
The symptoms of Trichomonas for women are strange discharge from the vagina, itchiness, pain during vaginal sex, and burning sensation when urinating. Symptoms of men are similar to the symptoms for women except that they don’t experience pain during intercourse.
The symptoms of Syphilis are more difficult to detect that some other STI’s. It causes painless sores on the genitals or in the mouth, vagina, or rectum. These sores are known as a chancre and can be difficult to detect. The sore will go away with out treatment. This is often followed by a body rash or flu like symptoms. Once again these symptoms will go away on there own but the infection will remain in your body. If untreated syphilis may result in death.
The symptoms of HPV are more difficult to detect. An individual can be a carrier and not even know it. HPV can cause warts or lead to cancer. Warts are skin colored lumps and may be cauliflower like. They can be very hard to see, once again highlighting the importance of regular testing. Abnormal cells that lead to cancer can only be detected with medical testing as well.
A large amount of people who have Herpes do not have any symptoms. The symptoms of herpes: the skin will feel itchy or tingly on and will then develop into painful blisters that turn into sores.
