Community Based Research

HIV West Yellowhead is currently conducting a needle exchange needs assessment. This needs assessment is taking place in the communities of Jasper, Hinton, Edson, and Whitecourt. It is still under debate among the professionals and community members whether injection drug use is a prevalent issue in the region and, consequently, if there is a need for a needle exchange program (NEP), how should it be organized and who should be responsible for its delivery.

HIV West Yellowhead is conducting the needs assessment to identify the amplitude of the injection drug use in the region, and quality and type of services needed in relation to this issue. Look for our final report in August 2009.

HIV West Yellowhead is also conducting a Social Norms Marketing Campaign geared towards young adults in Jasper. We are collecting data on risky behaviours and how young adults view their peers. A marketing campaign will run from mid July to mid September focusing on normative messages on risky behaviors. Give us a call for more information.
